Hi. My name is Leslie Weighill and I’m the founder of The Real Uganda. We started placing international volunteers in Ugandan led, grassroots organizations in January 2005. And what a ride it’s been. I absolutely love my job of introducing new people to Uganda. I love working with a variety of young Ugandan leaders as they empower their communities. I love giving small grants that allow single mothers to buy goats and increase their household income. I’ve also been known to pay school fees for high achieving but needy kids.
I started this blog after living in Uganda for over a decade. I’ve got so many stories to tell and unique perspectives to share. My hope is you dig in and enjoy.
If you’re like me and you like travel, meeting new people and learning cool things, maybe volunteering abroad is for you.
Check out our website. You’ll find information about our programs, what it takes to become a volunteer, and how to officially apply.
